About iPings.com

This is the place where RSS feeds are syndicated, aggregated, counted, moderated, reported, addded, announced, spidered, pinged, organised, cached, and... more! :-)

What exactly is iPings.com?

iPings.com it's a concept. We are constantly improving this service to deliver the most easy to use tool for driving traffic on your website from in single place. iPings.com has quite a few functions in one single place:

XML-RPC server - is a Remote Procedure Call Protocol which uses XML to encode its calls and HTTP as a transport mechanism. It is a very simple protocol, defining only a handful of data types and commands, and the entire description can be printed on two pages of paper. This is in stark contrast to most RPC systems, where the standards documents often run into the thousands of pages and require considerable software support in order to be used...

Simply put, we are using XML-RPC technology to ping different services which were designed to react each time they are pinged. Basically, the XML-RPC server becomes handy when your website's functionality is very limited.

  • Pinging related web services - iPings.com was designed to ping a big list of services using a single mouse click. However we suggest you should ping only the services which are related to your website's content, unless you want your pings to be ignored by some of them.
  • Traffic on your website - By pinging these services you will let them know that your website's content was updated and you want to have some spiders crawling your content. This will give you the chance to increase the link popularity and in the same time, get your website crawled on a constant basis. Read about syndication.

Please ping only when your feeds have fresh content... all the other pings will be considered SPAM and probably will get you banned or ignored.

  • Spam protection - Because people tend to ignore our notice, we have installed three cool anti-spam features:

    1. Simple image verification: for stopping automatic pings from bots or veeery lazy people who are inventing all sorts of tools which easily decrease the quality of the information on the web.
    2. Domain name banning: Oh yes, the innapropriate behaviour will be punished!
    3. No off-site pinging feature: Bots can create blogs, thousands of them. This service doesn't like spamming software, that's why you'll have to pay us a visit when you want to syndicate, aggregate, count, report, add, announce, crawl, ping, organise, cache, have some fun, etc.

Web syndication - is a form of syndication in which a section of a website is made available for other sites to use. This could be simply by licensing the content so that other people can use it; however, in general, web syndication refers to making Web feeds available from a site in order to provide other people an updated list of content from it (for example one's latest forum postings, etc.). This originated with news and blog sites but is increasingly used to syndicate any information...

  • Webmasters - get more traffic on your website by releasing content in RSS format, Atom, or any of the popular forms of syndicating.
  • Publishers - If you need fresh, daily content on your website, you can include feeds on your website and use them as content. That's cool and search engines love the syndication!

News Aggregator - An aggregator or news aggregator is a type of software that retrieves syndicated Web content that is supplied in the form of a web feed (RSS, Atom and other XML formats), and that are published by weblogs, podcasts, vlogs, and mainstream mass media websites.

What do aggregators do? - Aggregators reduce the time and effort needed to regularly check websites of interest for updates, creating a unique information space or "personal newspaper." An aggregator is able to subscribe to a feed, check for new content at user-determined intervals, and retrieve the content. The content is sometimes described as being "pulled" to the subscriber, as opposed to "pushed" with email or IM. Unlike recipients of some "pushed" information, the aggregator user can easily unsubscribe from a feed...

RSS Reader - Because not many people can read XML files like machines do... we implemented an RSS reader into the website. This means you can translate the RSS feeds into regular text and read them quickly. The RSS feeds are easily transformed into human readable format, just like in this example.
